Varsity Assistant Coach:

Coach Adam Thanasiu

His journey into the world of hockey began as a young 3 year old in the “Little Leaf” program. Having spent his youth years playing Travel hockey for the Sylvania Maple Leafs, Adam and his teammates found success winning championships within the Little Ceasers League, Silver Sticks, USA Hockey Ohio State Championships and competing in the Mid American District Championships. High School hockey found Adam lettering 4 years at the Varsity level for the Sylvania Northview Wildcats. During his tenure, Adam achieved Northwest Ohio 2nd team all-conference honors as a Sophomore, while earning 1st team all-conference honors both his Junior and Senior seasons. Serving as team captain his senior season, Adam helped lead the Wildcats to the State Final game where they suffered their only loss in the state, they were upended by Parma Padua 6-5 in OT.  After the season, Adam was awarded Northwest Ohio Player of the Year honors; he was the only defenseman in state history to earn the award.  Adam set both the Northview hockey single-season record in assist (67) his senior year while accumulating 79 points in total that season and setting the all-time record in assist with 188 in total. The 216 points amassed over 4 seasons ranks Adam as the highest among defenseman and 4th all-time in Northview history.

Adam was selected to the US National Select Festival as both a U-16 and U-17 as a representative of the Mid American District. This national showcase, 12-team tournament format consisted of 240 of the most talented prospects in the US from the 1988 birth year. As an aspiring prospect, Adam played alongside and against countless future NCAA athletes and now, NHL players.

As Adam’s playing career came to end, his desire to compete and passion for the game of hockey did not subside. He knew he wanted to remain active within the game. His first opportunity at coaching began in Columbus with the EYHA. After spending a year developing young talent, he had his sights on moving to a more competitive level of hockey.

This will be Coach Thanasiu’s third season behind the bench with the Prowlers.  The past four seasons, along side Coach McElheney, Adam was an assistant coach with the PHA Prowers. Under their tutelage, the Prowlers have competed admirably on a nightly basis, while engaging against state powers at the club hockey level.  This season, the coaching staff is excited to continue the growth of the PHA Prowler organization and will work tirelessly to obtain a league title and state birth.
